The diabetes drug Onglyza has been linked to some serious side effects from patients who have been prescribed the medication. We are investigating Onglyza lawsuits due to these potentially serious side effects, including cancer and heart failure. Consumer watchdog group Public Citizen, advised that patients wait at least 7 more years for further testing could be done on Onglyza to verify it is not causing serious and dangerous side effects. Onglyza was introduced in 2009 and has been monitored by the FDA since then. There is currently no Onglyza Class Action lawsuit, however a Onglyza was filed in Chicago by a family who claims Onglyza caused the death of their mother.
The Chicago Onglyza lawsuit claims that the manufacturer of Onglyza failed to properly conduct pre market trials. They also claim that the company had a responsibility to properly warn doctors of dangerous Onglyza side effects and they negligently marketed Onglyza.
Reported side effects of Onglyza include:
In August of 215 the FDA warned that type 2 diabetes medications belonging to the DPP-4 class, including Onglyza can cause severe joint pain. In it's statement the FDA said, “We have added a new Warning and Precaution about this risk to the labels of all medicines in this drug class, called dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4) inhibitors." The FDA said that patients should not stop taking Onglyza but they should contact their doctor if they experience this joint pain.
In addition to the risk of joint failure, the FDA is also currently investigating an increased risk of heart failure due to Onglyza. A study was released with data that suggested Onglyza causes a 27% increased risk of heart failure. The results of the study were published in the European Society of Cardiology Meeting, and later published in the New England Journal of Medicine. Click read the Onglyza Heart Failure study.
Symptoms of Onglyza Heart Failure include:
Onglyza has also been linked to an increased risk of pancreatitis, pancreatic cancer and thyroid cancer. In 2013 the FDA issued a report linking the drug to pancreas cancers.
