Diflucan Birth Defect Lawsuits

Diflucan Class ActionThere is a recent study that says the oral yeast infection drug Diflucan leads to an increased risk of birth defects or miscarriage. The JAMA Internal Medicine journal recently released a study that suggests there is nearly a 50% increased risk of birth defects for mother's who use Diflucan vs those that do not. The study states that of 3,315 women who were prescribed Diflucan, nearly 150 suffered a miscarriage. The study suggests that the FDA doing further research of Diflucan to analyze the risk of miscarriage and/or birth defects. The popular yeast infection treatment drug is also sold under the brand name Trican. The FDA warned in 2011 of the following side effects that 400-800 mg/day doses of Diflucan can causes including:

  • Cranial defects
  • Abnormal facial features
  • Joint deformities
  • Congenital heart disease
  • Abnormal skull developments
  • Oral clefts (cleft lip or palate)
  • Bowed thigh bones
  • Unusually thin ribs and long bones
  • Muscle weakness

The yeast infection drug Diflucan is made and sold by the drug companay Pfizer and was approved in 1990. There are currently no Diflucan class action lawsuits being filed.
